The Well
Exciting news for Village of Hope Guatemala!
For over a decade now Village of Hope Guatemala has provided safety and healing in Jesus’s name to over 500 children. Some of those children were reunited with extended family members after much training, therapy, healing and guidance was done.
Other children were adopted into new families and given new lives. Yet some children have remained living at Village of Hope and it has become their family. Each individual case is evaluated by therapists, judges, government officials and social workers to determine their future.
As time has gone by we’ve asked ourselves- what’s next for the precious lives the Lord entrusted us who were not adopted or sent back to the biólogical family as they reach adulthood?
Where do they go next?
Many of the children we work with are adolescent mothers who became mothers through no choice of their own- yet have done an incredible job of parenting their child and caring for them the way they wish they’d been cared for by their parents.
When one of these mothers turns 18, by law she must launch from Village of Hope and find her next step. While we’ve worked hard on education, training, healing and preparing them for success- being alone at 18 is risky for these girls. In order to take their child with them they must be able to prove to the judge they can provide for their child, have adequate income coming in, and a safe place to live- or their child is at risk for growing up without being with their mother.
As we’ve prayed through how to best support them into adulthood, alongside our board of directors, the Lord put yet another dream in our heart.
A couple years ago, by chance, Village of Hope obtained a plot of land to the Northwest side of the property. As we walked and prayed on the land recently asking God to lead us-an area with tiny houses was put on our hearts. A place of first steps. A place where independence and growth occurs. A place where therapy and education could continue. A place to be surrounded by support as they learn to launch.
And a vision of “The Well” began.
“So I came today to the spring, and said, ‘O Lord, the God of my master Abraham, if now You will make my journey on which I go successful;”
Genesis 24:42
The Well, is a tiny house village that will reside adjacent to the Village of Hope Property. Ten tiny houses will be built to house our precious young 18 to 20 year old moms to help enable them the time to get on their feet and eventually care for their children outside of Village of Hope.
The girls will be able to be close to their child for frequent visits (which makes it much easier on their children as well), do continuing education and training, continue therapy and be surrounded by their support system while still allowing them an opportunity to learn to adult.
As always, we can not do this alone so we are coming to our partners for help.
Will you pray and ask God how He would use you to be a part of changing not only lives, but future generations? Would you prayerfully help us build this tiny village to provide shelter for these young women as they take their next step?
