Andrew’s Story

Andrew

The city bus was crowded that afternoon but that was nothing unusual. Andrew’s twisted legs carried him down the crowded isle. Looking to his right he noticed 6 people piled together on one seat.

He could feel the stares as people turned, whispering and pointing. His whole life he had grown up hearing he was cursed. The smell of diesel filled the air. Andrews little head bobbed up and down with every jerk of the bus’s brakes. Sleep overcame him as his head rested on his mothers left shoulder.

Suddenly a sharp turn awoke him. He stretched, reaching both of his arms towards the dirty ceiling of the bus. Looking around him panic filled his entire body. “Mama?’ he called. But she was no where near him. After some time the bus started to empty. With tears streaming down his face, 8 year old Andrew clutched his brown sweater in hand and slowly made his way off the bus and onto the streets. There were people going in every direction all seeming to be in a rush trying to get somewhere. Lost, confused and hopeless Andrew slowly walked down the street as people stared and pointed, not knowing where to go.

Day after day he begged for his food-often going without.  At night he slept under the shelter of a park bench snuggled up to a street dog he named “Rufo”.

Months later, Andrew was rescued and brought to Village of Hope Guatemala where he found Shelter, education, love and safety. He loves playing soccer, superhero with his friends, and dancing in church.

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. “ Philippians ‪3:13-14
