How much we have in our hearts

Washing Clothes

During food delivery today I caught her out of the corner of my eye. She was on her knees, bent over, scrubbing a shirt.

We were delivering bags of food- and words of encouragement… reminding each family they are not forgotten. Jesus sees their needs and knows them by name. I believe this with all of my heart. He leads us straight to them each time.
I noticed the bucket of water and realized what that meant. They didn’t have any running water. We commented and she began to share that it took her about an hour to walk and collect that water.

She was careful not to waste a single drop.

I smiled at her and told her she was my hero- she blushed and smiled back. She has no idea how much I meant those words.

As we made our way back down the mountain, the dry dirt causing us to slip- I knew the image of that girl would forever be etched in my mind.

I am so grateful for the blessings the Lord has given me- yet I questioned-why me? Why do I get things like a washing machine and she doesn’t? Why do I get running water and she doesn’t?

I used to believe if you worked hard enough you’d succeed. Yet she worked harder than anyone I’d ever seen. And then it hit me- once again I had gotten it all wrong.

Success isn’t measured in a monetary form- success is measured by how much we have in our hearts.

“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” Proverbs 27:19
