Each week when we deliver food to families we also bring some type of treat for the kids. Usually juice boxes or cookies.
And every week without fail Jessica comes back 4-5 times asking for another one. She’s hungry.
Jessica is 11 years old, but she’s the size of a 7 year old due to malnutrition.
She’s the oldest of 7 siblings whom she cares for all day while her mom goes door to door offering to do laundry for neighbors in order to earn a few quetzales each day.
Her family builds a fire on the ground to cook the beans and rice they receive from us each week. A year ago her little brother was toddling around just learning how to walk and he fell into that fire, badly burning his arm.
They’re trying their best to survive, but often times they seem hopeless.
This week I prayed with Jessica that the Lord would renew her hope. Will you join me this week in praying for Jessica?
“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3
